Mindful Minute

Happy Mantra Monday!

Today’s wellbeing post is not a mantra, but a simple one-minute mediation timeout. I was reminded of this valuable tool during Sunday’s daily Calm meditation. If one-minute meditation is new to you, use a stopwatch to time how many breaths you take in one minute. Take slow, deep breaths. Each time you complete one breath cycle (a complete inhale and exhale), count one. When you reach one minute, note how many breaths you took.

The next time you notice yourself starting to feel stressed or anxious, take a brief time-out by closing your eyes and breathing the number of breaths you counted during the one minute exercise, counting slowly to yourself. Once you have finished, you will have completed a mindful minute!

When we are feeling rushed and harried, it is ironically the time that a mindful minute is needed most. It may seem counterintuitive to take a small break when you feel that you have so much to do and are already behind schedule. This practice, however, will help calm the mind, reduce stress, and increase productivity! So why not give it a try?
