Important and Easy
All-gender restrooms are important, and especially easy if you already have one or more single-stall restrooms. Simply utilize signs such as these. If you own a business and want to be part of the solution, please act.
When I posted this message on LinkedIn, Dr. Kate Toyer (Veterinarian, Wife, Father, Equality advocate, Transwoman, and founder and president of Australian Rainbow Vet and Allies) shared the following. Please read on.
Why should we have all gender bathrooms you might ask? This whole woke trans thing is just over the top, isn’t it?
Well, here is the thing. Cis people actually need all-gender bathrooms just as much as Trans people!
Consider the following situations:
- A father is out with his daughter who needs to go to the toilet. Understandably, he doesn’t want to enter a women’s-only restroom and make the women there uncomfortable, but his daughter is uncomfortable about going into the men’s-only restroom.
- The same for a mother with her son. She feels incredibly uncomfortable entering a men’s only restroom but her son is adamant he should not be in the girls restroom.
- An elderly couple, a man and a woman, who assist each other when going to the toilet to ensure they are able to clean up thoroughly without missing anything or without slipping and hurting themselves if they are alone.
- A caregiver with a neurodivergent client or a partner with their opposite gender loved one who is currently on a medication that makes them unsteady and they need assistance to ensure they don’t injure themselves when using the restroom.
All-gender restrooms benefit EVERYONE, not just trans people. Let’s make society better and more inclusive for everyone. 😃
Thank you Kate!
